So many people have a dream of being a blogger but what is the purpose of your blog? Will it add value to the internet and help your audience? Just like any blogger, we want:

  • To be our own boss
  • Get out of the office setting
  • A flexible work schedule
  • Financial freedom
  • Freedom from living the same day over and over

The question is… do you have what it takes?

What’s the Purpose of Your Blog

Blogging is so much more than just having a desire for all those things listed above. They are simply goals that we hope to achieve but it takes A LOT of hard work to get to the level we all desire in the blogging world.

So many people assume they can start a blog. They think they can write about whatever topic they feel like and they will magically become this famous blogger.

I can’t be clearer when I say… Absolutely not!

Blogging includes serving a purpose, creating a strategy, and having the ability to juggle the endless amount of work that goes into becoming the blogger you dream about being.

Are there bloggers out there that got lucky and never struggled to get their blog off the ground and up and running?… of course. Keep in mind though, they are few and far between so be prepared to put in the work.

What to Expect

You will find yourself beating your head against the wall on a regular basis. That’s normal. You will learn so much through trial and error. Just remember not to give up if this is truly what you want to do.

The very first thing you have to think about is, what is the purpose of your blog, and what’s your blog meaning?

These are the only questions you need to have a clear answer to in the beginning. If you can’t answer these questions, then take a step back and figure it out before moving forward.

blog meaning

I can speak from personal experience on this. When I originally started my blog, I was writing for me and no one else. Yes, I figured what I was writing about could resonate with so many other parents, but what was the purpose of what I was writing?

I wasn’t helping anybody or solving any problems. I had no blog meaning. Therefore, I wasn’t generating any traffic.

That’s what readers are looking for. Answers to their problems and ways to solve the things they are dealing with.

Now, can you say with certainty that your blog serves or will serve a purpose or you have defined your blog meaning?

If you can answer yes, that’s awesome. If not, I’d consider doing your homework and thinking about changing your niche to something people want to read about.

The next thing you’ll need to focus on is how do you make yourself stand out from the rest?

I’m sure you haven’t picked a niche that no other blogger is already writing about. If there is no blogger already writing about it, then it’s probably nothing people want to read about. Consider that possibility.

Benefits to Starting Out in an Already Popular Niche

You Already Know it’s Popular

You understand that there is an existing audience for your specific niche. All you need to do is figure out how to break your way in and get yourself noticed.

What are you going to do differently?

what is the purpose of your blog

The best advice I can give is to be yourself and be clear on your blog’s meaning. Sharing your personality and your experiences with your readers will allow them to feel like they can connect with you on a more personal level. That’s the one thing that no one can copy.

You Know it’s Profitable

We are all looking to monetize our blogs so why not pick a niche you know will make you money? Take the guessing out of it. Bust your ass and start working on creating amazing content.

The sooner you can start driving significant traffic to your site, the more opportunities that will become available, and the higher your earning potential.

None of this is possible though if you aren’t making sure your blog serves a purpose and you make clear your blog meaning.

Networking

This is another great way for you to build a connection with people who share the same interest as you.

Joining Facebook groups allows you to meet other people in your niche and those looking to achieve the same goals as yourself. You’re becoming a part of a family of bloggers and this allows you all to help each other grow.

Head over and like my Facebook page and I’ll share with you all the amazing groups I’m a part of.

These groups are amazing and can be so extremely helpful. Everyone can bounce ideas off each other, share problems you may encounter, and need helping to solve, or even come together to collaborate.

They give you the opportunity to share who you are and what you do. I’ve been lucky enough to meet people from all over the world. I

’ve made some really great connections with people I’m sure I’ll never meet in person but we share so much in common because of blogging.

Another amazing perk is that they can help you determine your blog meaning or help you better define it. The amazing people in these groups are full of knowledge and resources.

blog meaning

I’d suggest finding the groups that are right for you and join them immediately. They are full of like-minded people who are full of information.

Do not join these groups though if you aren’t willing to reciprocate the help. As a blogging nation, we have to help each other. I know I learn a lot from these groups but I also try to offer my help and advice when possible.

I just know how it can be trying to do it by yourself. Especially when the people around you just don’t get the whole “blogging” thing.

To Sum Up

Come up with a plan before diving in. Do your research and make sure there is an audience for you. Don’t waste your time spinning your wheels. Make sure your blog meaning is clear.

Also, don’t try to do it alone. I’ve gained so much more knowledge and confidence from becoming a part of so many amazing groups. They all offer something a little different but it’s refreshing to share conversations with people who understand the blogging world.

Once you find your purpose, run with it. Remember to always ask yourself something before writing any type of content… Am I helping anyone or solving any problems?

  1. These are excellent questions to ask, starting a blog. Or to ask AFTER starting one too. We must offer answers to problems or provide extraordinary entertainment. Blogging is hard work and there’s a lot to it. And yet it can be so fulfilling.

  2. So true! I went into blogging knowing it would be a challenge… but not realizing that banging my head against the wall would be a daily thing!! Lol

  3. These are great tips and ideas! My niche is very specific, so I don’t get as much traffic as I’d like. But there aren’t many other dance mom blogs out there that are as continually updated as mine, plus I add a humor component. Hoping it catches on soon!

  4. This is a great point. And I think the reason I held off starting a blog for awhile. I wanted to be more clear on what problem I wanted to solve for others. And what my purpose was.

  5. Great advice on all fronts. It is a lot of work to have a blog. Yes there are people who do it part time but initially if you want faster results you have to invest both time and money.

  6. I had to chuckle when I read some of your comments because they are what has resonated in my head since starting this journey. Very important questions – and very good suggestions. And yes, it can be very enjoyable, but its also a lot of work for sure. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Thanks for the information! This definitely made me ask myself some questions but I do believe I am answering some questions with my blog. I totally understand hitting your head against a wall lol. I’ve only been doing this for a short time so hopefully my blog will slowly grow.
