Let’s start out by being very clear about something when it comes to Pinterest… Pins are the essence of the platform. We are going to go over what you need to do for your Pinterest pinning strategy to drive more traffic to your site.
They are a way for people to bookmark the things that spark joy. Whether that means saving it for inspiration, clicking the Pin to learn more about the picture or title of that Pin, or visiting the linked website to make a purchase to fulfill a want or need.
Pins are what makes Pinterest what it is. They can then be saved to boards that contain other Pins relevant to a specific topic.
Boards are a very important way for individuals and brands to showcase who they are and the image they want to portray to their audience. It can give people an instant insight into who or what type of business you are.
For example, let’s say someone is an interior designer. They probably are going to have a variety of boards that showcase everything related to being an interior designer.
This is not an exact list but I’m pretty sure they would have boards that include: color palettes, throw pillows, living room décor, bathroom décor, etc. This will probably consist of not only work they’ve done but also Pins that inspire their work. Regardless, they are sending a clear message of who they and what their business is about.
Tips for Your Pinterest Pinning Strategy
There’s a lot to consider when creating a Pin. Make sure you go through the entire article to make sure you don’t miss something important to include in your Pinterest pinning strategy.
Make sure you are Pinning on a regular basis. Whether doing that manually or utilizing Tailwind to schedule your Pins, Pinterest wants to see that you are actively contributing to their platform.
It is said that you should be Pinning at least 20-25 times/day. I think I do roughly that but I don’t exactly keep track. (I just know I’m super active on Pinterest.) Some of my Pins I do manually and the others are scheduled on Tailwind. Pinterest wants a mix of both.

Just stay active and consistent. This is a no-brainier for your Pinterest pinning strategy.
They do not want to see your boards full of only your Pins. They want to see a mix of yours along with other peoples as well.
You may read people saying do an 80/20 split or 70/30 or 50/50. If you check out my Pinterest profile you’ll see my boards have way more Pins from other people than my own. I’m newer to the blogging game and simply don’t have enough content to fill my boards as much as I’d like to.
I feel that some people think that if they’re Pinning other people’s Pins, then they are sending potential traffic to another site.
Personally, I don’t think that deep into it. I try to create amazing Pins in hopes that people will see their value and share them. On the flip-side, I also credit other amazing Pins and content I see by sharing them on my boards. There is nothing wrong with implementing this into your Pinterest pinning strategy.

Be Aware of Your Analytics
Having access to these numbers is such an amazing resource. Being able to break down your numbers according to categories and then interests is amazing. It truly allows you to adjust your Pinterest pinning strategy as needed.
Then you can take it a step further by knowing your audience. It’s broken down by age group, gender, country/metros, and the type of device they use. This is beyond helpful if you ask me.
If you not only can learn how to interpret those numbers but also use them to maximize your strategy, you could blow up on Pinterest along with the traffic you drive to your website.
Knowing where to focus your attention saves you a lot of time from guessing what people are searching for. You can then focus more on how to make money using Pinterest and your overall Pinterest pinning strategy.

Only Pin Good Pins on Your Boards
Make sure that you aren’t just pinning any old Pin to your boards. Know your audience. It’s your job to be Pinning relevant Pins that your followers want to see.
You want to be clear about what you and your brand represents and make sure you are providing Pins that showcase just that. Pin with intention.
Check the Links to Make Sure They are Good, Credible Link Destination
Take the extra step and verify it. First, make sure the link works. This drives me crazy when I want to click through to a page and the link is either broken or I receive an error message.
You also want to verify that it’s from a reputable source. People aren’t going to trust you if a Pin sends them to a spammy site that they don’t feel comfortable visiting.
If they don’t trust your Pins, they won’t be following you or revisiting your boards. Gaining your follower’s trust is a super important factor in your Pinterest pinning strategy.
Re-Pin Your Pins if They Were Pinned to Good Boards
I’ve heard mixed things in regard to this so I’m posting it just in case. Basically, when you notice that someone Pins one of your Pins to one of their boards, you want to visit that board and then re-Pin it back to one of your boards.
This is supposed to tell Pinterest that this is a good and credible Pin. It’s done in hopes that Pinterest will rank that Pin higher and give it more authority over similar Pins.
Again, I’ve heard mixed things about this, and with the recent changes, I think we are all still trying to figure what that exactly means for us users.
Be Sure You’re the First One to Pin Your Pin
Don’t delay pinning it to Pinterest. Once you post to your blog, you need to immediately Pin that article to Pinterest. For some reason, Pinterest doesn’t like it when you aren’t the first to Pin your own Pin.
So just remember that as soon as you post your article, you need to instantly Pin it to Pinterest. That has to be a must in your Pinterest pinning strategy.
Keep Creating Fresh Pins
This might be one of the most important things to implement in your Pinterest pinning strategy. With the new changes to Pinterest’s algorithm, they want to see fresh pins. They are making a lot more room for them in the search results so older Pins no longer maintain all the authority.
You may be used to constantly re-pinning old Pins because they are extremely popular but Pinterest is now penalizing accounts for doing this. They are simply not showing them and even marking them as spam.
They are not saying you can’t do it at all but definitely consider reducing the number of times you re-Pin any one Pin because it will ultimately affect you and your numbers.
Keep in mind that you want your Pins to reflect who you are and what you bring to the table. Your followers follow you for a reason so don’t confuse them or give them a reason to unfollow you.
Also know, Pinterest is an ever-changing platform and you have to be ready to change with it. I understand it can be frustrating when you finally think you have it all figured out. You’ve mastered the SEO and how to maximize your potential of being found in search results. Then they go and change things.
The nice thing though, it keeps you from becoming stale. If you think you have a well-oiled machine, you might begin to slack and fall between the cracks. Always be ready to tweak your Pinterest pinning strategy.
Simply be aware of what Pinterest wants and make sure you give it to them one Pin at a time.
