Unless you are living under a rock, you have most likely heard of the newest social media app trending- Clubhouse.
If you haven’t, don’t worry. We’re diving into everything you need to know, how to join, and how to make money on Clubhouse.
What is the Clubhouse Social Media App?
The Clubhouse app is the first app ever designed as a solely auditory app.
Meaning, instead of scrolling on your phone looking at pictures, videos, and memes, you listen to speakers chat in different rooms on various topics.
Once you join Clubhouse, you will be prompted to follow different genres, accounts, and rooms.
After you follow a few people, you’ll be able to listen to speakers in hosted rooms, as well as create your own room.
Not only are there informative rooms and speakers, but you can also hang out in a conversational room styled like a dinner conversation.
The best part about the Clubhouse social media app?
Since it’s like a virtual podcast meeting, you don’t really have to stop what you’re doing to engage in it.
Find a room you like, pop in some headphones, and keep working. Too easy!
How to Join Clubhouse
To join the Clubhouse app, you have to be exclusively invited. Thankfully, there are two ways to receive an invitation.
Ask for an Invite
If you know someone who is already a member of Clubhouse, you can ask them to send you an invitation. The only downside to this is that each member gets a limited amount of invitations.
So, you may have to ask around to see who can send you an invite. But, once you find someone, all you have to do is give them your cell phone number and they will send you your invitation.
Join the Waitlist
Another way to get an invite to join Clubhouse is by joining the waitlist on Clubhouse’s official site.
You can go ahead and claim whatever username you choose and get automatically added to the waitlist. Then, when the creators open up new accounts, they will personally send you the invitation to join.
How to Earn More Invites If I’m Already On Clubhouse
Maybe you are already on Clubhouse and aren’t looking how to join but how you can earn invites to send to others to join the Clubhouse Community.
Clubhouse automatically adds invites to your account based on a variety of factors. These include:
- host great conversations
- join in the discussion in other conversations
- invite great contributors to your room
When Clubhouse sees that you are contributing to the app in a positive way, they will reward you by automatically making invites available in your account.
How to Use the Clubhouse Social Media App
Using the Clubhouse app can be a bit tricky at first. But, once you learn your way around, it is actually quite easy.
After you create your account, you will want to edit your bio. When you start typing out your bio, there are a few things you will want to keep in mind.
Your Clubhouse bio should focus on solving your preferred audience’s needs. Your bio will tell others whether or not they want to network with, listen to, or follow you.
When you are finished updating your bio, begin searching for accounts that you (and your business) resonate with.
You can follow accounts that you want to network with, listen to, or even learn from.
Then, start listening in on rooms!
Once you are comfortable navigating the app, try hosting your own room. When you host on your own, you begin creating your very own community. This allows you the opportunity to announce upcoming projects, events, and content.
What If I’m New to Clubhouse and Still Don’t Know What to Do?
The great thing about Clubhouse is that there are resources available to help you really get going.
First, they offer a new user orientation every Wednesday at 6:00 pm Pacific Time. There is a “Welcome to Clubhouse” session that is now open to everyone. It used to be only available to you the first week you signed up but now can access it any time.
They use this time to give you a tour of Clubhouse, share some tips and best practices, and also allocate time to answer any questions you may have.
Another great resource is the Clubhouse Town Halls which are on Sundays at 9:00 am Pacific Time. This is when the creators of the app will share what’s on their minds and answer any questions you may have as a user. This may be a good time to offer any ideas or suggestions you think might benefit Clubhouse from a user standpoint.
Lastly, reach out to the other users. Most people are willing to offer help and better explain anything you may not fully understand. Ask your questions but be sure to answer others too if they turn to you.
3 Clubhouse Bio Tips
- When choosing your Clubhouse profile picture for your bio, you want a clear picture of yourself. Since this is your only chance to show a visual on the app, make the best use out of it. Having a picture of yourself will help grow more of a connection with your audience because they will (in a way) know who they are listening to.
- If you have any credentials such as education, certifications, or careers, you definitely want to add them to your bio. That way, people will be more likely to listen in on what you have to say, as well as giving you a follow.
- Link your other social media channels to your Clubhouse bio. The app has the ability to add a clickable link to your Instagram or Twitter account. Since you want to get as much traffic as you can, I highly recommend utilizing this feature.

Who Should I Follow on Clubhouse?
This app has literally each and every genre you could ever think of.
So, when choosing who to follow on Clubhouse, think about your niche.
You should follow Clubhouse accounts, rooms, and clubs that can help you meet other people in your niche, educate you on your niche, and help grow your audience for your business.
Although you can really follow whoever you want, the app is better suited for networking and marketing when you are only following a few narrowed-down niches.
For example, if you are a mom blogger, you may want to follow mom accounts, blogging accounts, and making money online accounts. But, you don’t want to add in other random accounts like personal training and finance.
What is a Clubhouse Room?
A Clubhouse room is where you can listen to speakers, speak as a guest, or speak to your audience.
Once you enter a room, you will see that there are three different sections of people.
The first few rows of the room will show all of the speakers.
Next, there will be a row of people who are followed by the speakers. You can look at this section like recommended accounts you may like.
Lastly, there will be a section showing all of the other accounts listening to the room.
If you want to learn more about speakers, who their followers are, or anybody else in the room, all you have to do is click on their picture. After you click it, it will pull up a small preview of their profile. You can then choose if you want to read their full bio or follow them.
How to Make Money on Clubhouse in 9 Steps
Even though there aren’t direct ways to initially make money off of Clubhouse, you definitely can utilize the app to generate income.
Primarily, you want to use Clubhouse as a way to grow your audience.
1. Add your other social outlets (accounts, blogs, websites, etc) to your bio
When creating your bio, make sure you have your other social media outlets added to it.
Although you can’t link your blogs or websites, you can still type in the account URL. That way, people know how to find you outside of Clubhouse.
This also increases your chance of a new customer, email subscriber, or dedicated member of your audience.
2. Grow your network by engaging in rooms
As with every other platform, you want to engage regularly on the Clubhouse app.
When you are in rooms, check out the speakers’ profiles as well as who follows them.
Also, don’t be afraid to message people. Since you can’t talk in rooms (if you are not a speaker), you can totally message the speakers afterward.
Whether you need their help or if you want to help them, the best way to engage is to talk to other accounts.
3. Learn more about your niche and audience
There is always more to learn, right?
When you are in a Clubhouse room, make sure that you truly pay attention to what the speakers are saying.
This is a great way to dive deeper into your niche and what your preferred audience needs.
4. Get ahead on your content by paying attention to trends and questions
As you learn more about your audience and niche by listening in on rooms, listen for upcoming and current trends.
You can stay ahead of the game if you get early access, right? So, listen for ideas, concepts, and discussions you can create content for.
Also, listen for unanswered (and answered) questions of your preferred audience. Find needs, solve them, and then display them to your audience.
If you do this, you will find that you are answering questions before your audience even realizes they want the answer- which is a win, win.
5. Grow your audience by guest speaking
Since you want to grow your audience and platform any way that you can, try guest speaking in different rooms.
Not only will this give you more confidence when you host your own rooms, but it also gives you access to every member of the room.
Meaning, if you are speaking in a room of 1,000 people, that is 1,000 potential clients within your niche.
6. Host your own room to build your community
Once you are comfortable with speaking, host your own room in Clubhouse.
The biggest perk of hosting your own room is that you control the topics, discussions, and can freely talk about your own business.
7. Invite guests to speak in your room
When guest speakers are in your room, they generally bring a bit of their own audience as well.
Since they will likely tell their regular rooms and platforms that they will be a guest in your room, you will have more accounts looking at your page, too.
Also, having guest speakers can broaden your audience and answer their needs in different ways than your own.
8. Create your own clubs
On Clubhouse, you can follow clubs that others have created.
But, you can also create your own!
You can set the name, bio, and determine the niche. Another perk of having your own club is that you get to approve of the people initially invited to join.
This is a great way to build your own community of like-minded people. Whether they are colleagues or potential clients, invite people in your niche to join your own club.
9. Speak about your events, products, and content when (and only if) applicable
Although you do not want to only talk about business (unless that is your niche), you should be announcing products and content that provides a solution for your audience.
Stay away from constant self-promotion, but be sure to mention your business when it is applicable.
Monetize on Clubhouse with Payments
Clubhouse has scaled enough that they are now offering what is called Payments. This allows Clubhouse creators to earn money online by having other users send money directly to them.
In order to receive payments, you will need to register to be able to accept them. Currently, you will need to be an IOS user and be in the United States. This is just temporary while they work out the kinks. This will eventually be an option for Android users too.
How To Send A Payment on Clubhouse
In order to send money to someone, click on the profile of the creator you want to receive the money. If they have registered and enabled their account to receive money, there will be a ‘send money’ button at the bottom of their profile.
Keep in mind, there are only 2 ways someone can send money online to the recipient. Either they follow them or they both were in the same channel within the last 10 days. If neither of these is true, money can’t be sent to the creator.
Next, you will need to decide how much money you want to send the creator. The first time you do send money, you will need to register either your debit or credit card. Once you do this, you won’t need to re-enter your card information anytime thereafter (unless it expires or you want to change the card).
As the creator, you get to keep 100% of the money being sent to you. If you are the sender though, you will be charged a small processing fee that goes directly to the credit card processor.
The Clubhouse Social App in Conclusion
The Clubhouse app can be a little confusing to learn at first but, it is totally worth learning.
When you join the app, make sure you update your bio to give a great depiction of you and your business. Then follow people within your niche and begin engaging with them.
If you work it correctly, you can naturally grow the reach of your platform and catapult your success.
